Govt set to purchase another 50,000 tons of wheat from Switzerland

The interim government has approved the purchase of 50,000 more metric tons of wheat from Switzerland in the current fiscal year. This will cost 1716.480 million Taka.

On Wednesday (November 27), a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement was held at the conference room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed. The meeting approved the import of this wheat in view of the proposal of the Food Ministry.

According to the meeting sources, a proposal was made from the Food Ministry to import 50,000 metric tons of wheat outside the scheduled proposal of the meeting. The Advisory Council Committee discussed the proposal and approved it. In view of this, 50,000 metric tons of wheat will be purchased from M/s Agrocorp International of Singapore for 1716.480 million Taka. The price of each metric ton of wheat has been estimated at 286.08 US dollars.

Earlier, in the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement held on November 13, approval was given to purchase 50,000 tons of wheat from Switzerland-based Messrs. Aston Agro-Industrial SA. The cost of this was estimated at 175 crore 28 lakh 40 thousand taka. The price of wheat per metric ton was estimated at 292.14 US dollars.

Earlier, on November 6, the Advisory Council Committee approved the proposal to purchase 50,000 metric tons of wheat from Singapore's Agrocorp International Pte Ltd under Package-1 through an international open tender in the current 2024-2025 fiscal year. The cost of this was estimated at 180 crore 82 lakh 80 thousand taka. The price of wheat per metric ton was estimated at 301.38 US dollars.
