Govt takes strict stance to curb online gambling, betting, and porn sites

The government has intensified its crackdown on online gambling, betting, and pornography sites, said Fayez Ahmed Taiyeb, special assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT Affairs.

Speaking at a press briefing at BTRC headquarters in Agargaon on Tuesday (November 4), he said over 5,000 SIMs used for gambling-related transactions have already been blocked.

“All websites hosting gambling ads will also be shut down. However, offenders often create new sites after closures. Bangladesh Bank and all MFS operators must take effective steps within a month,” he added.

Mobile financial service providers, however, said detecting such transactions remains extremely difficult.

Authorities plan to hold another stakeholder meeting within a month to review the ongoing enforcement drive.
