Govt to buy 50,000mt rice from Singapore

The government has approved the purchase of 50,000 metric tons of non-basmati parboiled rice from Singapore through an international open tender, at a total cost of Tk 216.44 crore.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Public Procurement Advisory Committee, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat on Monday (November 24).

The purchase falls under Package-6 of the 2025–26 fiscal year, and the rice will be supplied by S Agrocorp International Pvt. Ltd., Singapore.

Earlier, on November 18, approval was given to buy the same quantity of rice from M/s Aditya Birla Global Trading (Singapore) Pvt. Ltd. at a cost of Tk 216.91 crore, priced at USD 354.19 per metric ton.

Previously, on October 22, the government had approved buying 100,000 tons of rice (50,000 MT non-basmati parboiled and 50,000 MT Atap rice) from the UAE and Myanmar at Tk 446.23 crore through open tender and G2G arrangements.
