Govt to buy paddy and atap rice, new prices fixed
The government has set targets to procure 50,000 metric tonnes of paddy, 600,000 metric tonnes of parboiled rice, and 50,000 metric tonnes of atap rice from the domestic market during the upcoming Aman season.
The decision was made on Sunday, November 9, at a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) chaired by Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, adviser to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, at the Cabinet Division conference room.
Collection will begin nationwide on November 20 and continue until February 28, 2026.
The government has fixed the procurement price per kilogram at 50 taka for parboiled rice, 49 taka for atap rice, and 34 taka for paddy. Compared to last year, the procurement prices for this Aman season have been increased.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the food adviser said, “The production cost of Aman paddy is lower than that of Boro, as irrigation costs are reduced due to rainfall. However, considering the farmers’ interests, we have increased the procurement prices this year. With everyone’s cooperation, we hope to achieve the Aman procurement target successfully.”
