Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the government will ensure advanced medical treatment for the five firefighters injured in Monday’s chemical warehouse fire in Tongi.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday morning after visiting the injured at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, the adviser assured that the government would provide full support throughout their treatment.

“There will be no negligence in the treatment of these firefighters who were injured while performing their duties,” he said.

The fire broke out at a chemical warehouse in the Tongi area on Monday afternoon, leaving five members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence severely burned. Four of them were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, while the fifth was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

According to Dr. Nasir Uddin, Director of the National Burn Institute, two of the firefighters suffered 100% burns, including damage to their respiratory tracts.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by emergency responders and the need for stringent safety measures in chemical storage facilities.
