Govt to honour families of children killed in July movement
The government has announced that it will honor the families of children who lost their lives during the July movement, ahead of World Children’s Day on October 6.
A press release from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs on Wednesday confirmed that the families of the deceased children will receive special recognition during the nationwide celebration.
National Child Rights Week will also be observed across the country from September 29 to October 5. Alongside government initiatives, various private organizations will run week-long programs. This year’s World Children’s Day theme is “Listen to the Child Today, Work for the Child.”
The main event will be held at Osmani Memorial Hall in Dhaka, organized jointly by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Bangladesh Shishu Academy. Sharmeen S. Murshid, Advisor on Women and Children Affairs, will be the chief guest, while Senior Secretary Momtaz Ahmed will preside over the program. UNICEF representatives and child delegates will also deliver speeches.
Parents of the children killed in the movement will share their experiences, and a documentary featuring the children will be screened at the event.
