Govt to import three LNG cargoes from UK
To meet the nation’s energy needs, the government has approved the import of three LNG cargoes from the spot market at an estimated cost of Tk1,442 crore. The decision was taken on Tuesday (August 19) during a meeting of the Public Procurement Advisory Committee, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Secretariat.
According to sources, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the three LNG cargoes will be purchased from M/s Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, UK, through an international quotation process. The 42nd cargo, scheduled for October 19–20, 2025, will be imported at USD 11.44 per MMBTU, costing about Tk480.68 crore. The 43rd cargo, scheduled for October 6–7, will be imported at USD 11.34 per MMBTU, costing about Tk476.48 crore. The 44th cargo, scheduled for October 28–29, will be imported at USD 11.54 per MMBTU, costing about Tk484.88 crore.
The government expects that the timely arrival of these cargoes will significantly help alleviate the current energy shortage in the country’s power and industrial sectors.
