Govt to start canal excavation project within 180 days: Water Resources Minister
The government will start canal excavation activities across the country within the next 180 days, Water Resources Minister Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee said.
He said that the date and implementation plan for canal excavation will be finalized. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already held a cabinet meeting. He gave instructions to the ministers there. In addition to improving the law and order situation and controlling the prices of goods during Ramadan, we have to work to continue the development of the area. We are working accordingly.
He told reporters after a view-exchange meeting with district administration, police and Water Development Board officials at Lakshmipur Circuit House on Friday morning.
The minister said that work will be done to prevent erosion in those places where river erosion continues. He promised to start excavation activities especially on the Bhulua River and Rahmatkhali canal in Lakshmipur. He also said that the promise made to the people to develop the roads in the area will be implemented.
Earlier in the morning, when Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee reached the Circuit House, Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan and Superintendent of Police Abu Tarek greeted the minister with flowers. Later, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police presented a guard of honor to the minister. After that, BNP Joint Secretary General and Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee held a meeting and exchanged flowers with his party leaders and activists.
