Govt to take action against false news: Deputy Press Secretary
The government will take strict action against the dissemination of false or misleading news, announced Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday (June 4) at the Foreign Service Academy in Bailey Road, Dhaka, Majumder emphasized that the spread of misinformation will no longer be tolerated.
“From now on, anyone publishing false or misleading information that confuses the public will face legal consequences,” he said.
He specifically addressed recent reports concerning honors related to the Liberation War, labeling them as “fake, false, baseless, and fabricated.” Majumder called on the media outlets involved to issue corrections.
“We expect those who reported the misinformation to acknowledge and correct their errors. Corrections should be published in the same space where the original report appeared, along with a formal apology to readers,” he added.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to press freedom, he stated, “The current interim government maintains a liberal stance on media freedom. We always welcome constructive criticism. However, no one has the right to irresponsibly publish false news.”
