Govt working on MPO teachers' demands: Education Adviser
Education Adviser CR Abrar has said the government is actively addressing the demands of MPO-listed (Monthly Pay Order) teachers at private institutions, including housing allowance and better pay structure.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday (October 16) at the Ministry of Education, he said, "We are sensitive to the issue of house rent for non-government teachers. The government is working on it."
"We hope to introduce a better pay structure next year based on the new Pay Commission’s recommendations," he added.
MPO-listed teachers and staff have been protesting in Dhaka for five consecutive days, demanding 20% house rent allowance (minimum Tk 3,000), Tk 1,500 medical allowance, and Festival bonus increased from 50% to 75%.
Earlier on Wednesday, they announced a long march towards the Chief Adviser’s residence in Jamuna if demands are not met.
At the same press event, Education Secretary Rehana Parveen said, "We’ve sent the demands to the Finance Ministry and are working continuously. Despite the Finance Adviser and Secretary being abroad, we're pursuing this actively. We've invited the protesting teachers for talks."
She added that with the upcoming national pay scale, improvements are expected, though implementation may take some time.
