Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that the government is actively working to strengthen democracy and return power to the people. He made the statement while delivering a speech at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) after receiving an honorary doctorate degree on Wednesday.

Dr. Yunus noted that the interim government is committed to ensuring peace and stability in the country through democratic reforms. “The government is focused on strengthening democratic institutions and empowering the people. Reform efforts are being given the highest priority,” he said.

He further added that Malaysia’s cooperation would be essential in bringing about major changes in Bangladesh’s economy.

Earlier, the degree was presented by the Chancellor of UKM at a ceremony held at the university’s auditorium in Kuala Lumpur. The event was attended by distinguished academics, policymakers, faculty members, students, and members of Prof Yunus’s delegation.

University officials noted that the honorary degree honours Prof Yunus’s “unique and transformative impact” on communities worldwide through his advocacy of microcredit and social business models.

The award ceremony was held at the university auditorium, where Dr. Yunus addressed faculty members, dignitaries, and invited guests.
