Grave digger Monu Mia to get another red horse
A young entrepreneur from Chattogram, Engineer Muhammad Nasir Uddin, who is also the chairman of the humanitarian organization Alhaj Shamsul Haque Foundation, has decided to gift a red horse to Monu Mia, a grave-digger from Kishoreganj. He personally contacted Monu Mia to inform him of this gesture.
Engineer Muhammad Nasir Uddin said, “Some miscreants killed Monu Mia’s horse. On behalf of the Alhaj Shamsul Haque Foundation, I want to stand beside him and offer support.”
Since Wednesday (May 14), Monu Mia has been admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka. In his absence, the horse—his faithful companion—was left without care. On the morning of Friday (May 16), locals discovered the animal’s body in the water near a madrasa in Hashimpur 36 village of Mithamoin upazila.
Whenever called upon to dig a grave, 67-year-old Monu Mia would head out with his horse to the home of the deceased. For over five decades, this elderly man from the haor region of Itna in Kishoreganj has dug more than 3,000 graves—without ever accepting payment.
