Green Concern Foundation marks Environment Day with tree plantation drive in capital
On the occasion of World Environment Day, a tree plantation programme was held in the capital at the initiative of the environmental organisation Green Concern’s Foundation, under the theme “Plant trees on road dividers, decorate the city in green for everyone.”
The programme took place on the road divider between Tejgaon BSTI and Amader Shomoy on Thursday afternoon (June 4).
The organisation has taken initiatives for tree plantation across the country.
The tree plantation programme was inaugurated by Green Concern’s Foundation Chairman Md Mujibur Rahman and Executive Editor of Amader Shomoy Nazrul Islam.
Also present were the organisation’s Secretary Ranzit Sarker, Acting News Editor of ‘Amader Shomoy’ Ashraful Islam, Online In-charge Bipul Hasan, Senior Reporter Abdullah Kafi, members of Green Concern’s Foundation including amilia Khanom, Labonno Lipi, Senior Reporter Shahjan Molla, along with other members of the organisation. Overall cooperation for the programme was provided by Sikdar Enterprise proprietor Aminul Islam.
Speaking at the inauguration of the tree plantation programme, Amader Shomoy Executive Editor Nazrul Islam said that there is no alternative to the environment if we are to maintain balance and make the Earth liveable. As the world is gradually getting hotter, he asked what the average temperature of the country was ten years ago and what it is now, urging everyone to reflect on the change.
He said there is no alternative to tree plantation for building a liveable country. Neem saplings were planted at the event.
He noted that neem trees were chosen because they release more oxygen and absorb more carbon dioxide, which is highly significant for the environment. He added that this would bring relief to citizens and said everyone should plant at least one tree to make the Earth greener.
He further mentioned that the present government is giving great importance to environmental issues and that environmental protection is included in the planning of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Chairman of Green Concern’s Foundation Md Mujibur Rahman said that global warming is affecting the entire world and the only way to overcome this situation is to plant more trees. Marking the World Environment Day, we planted trees today on the road dividers in Tejgaon area in the capital under the initiative of Green Concern’s Foundation. Several neem saplings were planted.
He said neem is a medicinal tree known for its many benefits, used in areas ranging from skincare to healthcare. He called on everyone to plant at least one tree and said the whole world should be filled with greenery.
Secretary of Green Concern’s Foundation Ranzit Sarker said they had come together with a meaningful and humane initiative—tree plantation on road dividers. A tree not only beautifies the environment but also saves lives, provides oxygen, reduces temperature and makes cities liveable.
At present, climate change, extreme heat, air pollution and environmental degradation are major challenges. Therefore, beyond discussion, practical initiatives are now essential. Environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of the government; sustainable green cities cannot be built without the collective participation of civil society, the younger generation and every conscious citizen.
He added that each sapling planted on the divider would stand as a protest against pollution, a resistance against rising temperatures, and a green declaration in favour of life.
He stressed that responsibility does not end with planting trees; tree conservation is equally important, as protecting nature means protecting human civilisation.
