Groom arrives at polling centre in wedding attire

Md Samiul Islam, 32, from Syedpur in Nilphamari cast his vote on Thursday, even on his wedding day. Amid wedding preparations, he arrived at Syedpur Pilot Girls' High School polling centre in the morning and exercised his franchise for the first time.

Samiul said, "Vote first, wedding later. Voting is not just a right, it is our duty. I had pledged that I would vote first, then get married." He is the son of Md Manjurul Islam of Niamatpur Sarkarpara area in the upazila.

Voters and neighbours at the centre were delighted to see the groom arrive in sherwani and pagri to cast his vote. They said, "Samiul is truly an inspiration. Seeing a youth like him has increased our enthusiasm and sense of duty to vote."
