Groom dies from electrocution while removing fan at wedding reception
A newly-married groom, Ahmed Anas Bappi (22), died from electrocution while trying to remove a stand fan from a wedding pandal in Kushtia's Daulatpur upazila.
The incident occurred around 2am on Thursday night at the Gacher Diyar Schoolpara area in Hoglabaria Union of the upazila. Anas was the son of Yusuf Ali of the same area.
Local and family sources said Anas had married Saira Khatun, daughter of Saiful Islam of Bahirmadi Alinagar area in Philipnagar Union, about two months ago. On Thursday afternoon, Saira was formally brought to Anas's home. A reception for the bride was arranged for Friday afternoon. Anas was supervising the pandal and lighting work at his home on Thursday night. Around 2am, he went to remove a stand fan from the pandal and was electrocuted due to negligence. Family members took him to Kushtia General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Anas's father, Yusuf Ali, said, "How beautifully he brought his bride home in the afternoon. So much joy, so much happiness! We were making all the arrangements to feed everyone with great fanfare on Friday. But my son himself did not get to eat."
Hoglabaria Union Parishad member Milon Hossain said preparations for the bride's reception were underway on Friday. The family has been devastated by this tragic accident before that.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said police visited the scene after receiving the news. The incident is deeply heartbreaking. Necessary legal action is being taken in this regard.
