Gross forex reserves stand at $36.15bn
The country’s gross foreign exchange reserves stood at $36.15 billion as of September 29, according to the latest data released by Bangladesh Bank.
Under the International Monetary Fund’s Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM6) methodology, the country’s reserves stood at $31.30 billion.
The gross reserve was $36.31 billion on September 20, while the BPM6-based figure stood at $31.45 billion. The latest figures therefore show a modest decline in reserves over the period.
Meanwhile, remittance inflows have remained strong. Bangladesh received $1.877 billion in remittances during the first 20 days of September, according to central bank data.
Of the total, expatriate Bangladeshis sent around $130 million between September 17 and 19 alone. In comparison, remittances during the first 19 days of September last year stood at $1.869 billion.
The continued inflow of remittances has provided support to the country’s foreign exchange position even as reserves have edged down in recent days.
