Police have arrested a guardian of a classmate for entering a school classroom and beating and slamming a sixth-grade student three times in Munshiganj's Sirajdikhan. The incident took place around 10am on Thursday at Rajdia Abhay Pilot School and College in Ichhapura union of the upazila. Later, the school's headteacher, Biswajit Ghosh, filed a case as complainant against the guardian, named Nahid Sheikh.

A video of the student being beaten and slammed has spread on social media. The video has created concern among the school's students, teachers and guardians.

According to police and school sources, sixth-grade students were in the classroom after a preparatory parade. The previous day, Wednesday, two sixth-grade students had an altercation. On Thursday morning, the uncle of one student, Nahid Sheikh, entered the classroom over allegations of the other student being beaten.

There are allegations that upon entering the classroom, Nahid Sheikh grabbed and beat a student of the same class. At one point, he lifted the student and slammed him three times inside the classroom.

At that time, as students in the classroom started screaming in fear, teachers came forward. Later, the headteacher took Nahid Sheikh to his room and informed Sirajdikhan Police Station. Police went to the school and arrested him, taking him to the police station.

The arrested Nahid Sheikh is the son of the late Abdur Jabbar Sheikh of Purba Rajdia village in the upazila.

Speaking on the incident, Jahangir Alam, guardian member of the school's governing body, said, "Last Wednesday, two students had an altercation. Over this, on Thursday, a guardian of one student went and beat another student. It is shameful to enter the classroom like this and beat a student instead of seeking justice from the headteacher. It was not right for that guardian to do such a thing."

Officer-in-Charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station, Md Alauddin, confirmed the incident and said the accused guardian is detained at the police station. A case has been filed against him.

Upazila Executive Officer of Sirajdikhan, Rumpa Ghosh, said legal action is being taken over the incident.
