Gunfight between army and UPDF in Khagrachhari

The Bangladesh Army has been conducting a long-term operation against the armed group UPDF (Main) in the remote Jagapara area of Panchhari upazila, Khagrachhari district.

As part of the operation, on Saturday (September 20) morning, a search was carried out at the house of a suspected active member of the group. At that time, an exchange of fire took place with 15–20 UPDF members who were stationed in the neighbourhood.

According to ISPR, during a subsequent search, security forces recovered 8 rounds of ammunition, one Russian pistol, two magazines, 200 rounds of rifle bullets, one walkie-talkie set, and uniforms with other accessories. However, due to the remote terrain, the armed group managed to escape. Legal proceedings are underway to file a case against the armed members involved.

The Bangladesh Army is determined to ensure the security of people of all ethnic communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and will continue strict military operations against armed groups in the future.
