Gunfire from Myanmar injures Rohingya youth in Ukhiya

Gunshots were heard again across the border in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, on Thursday night, creating fear among residents living near the area.

According to local officials, the firing started around 11.00pm and continued until 2:30am near the Rahmatbil area of the Palongkhali border.

A young Rohingya man, Md. Yaser, living in Camp-12 in Ukhiya, was injured by a bullet reportedly coming from Myanmar.

The clash is believed to have taken place between the Arakan Army and the Rohingya armed group ARSA.

Local Union Chairman Gafur Uddin said the intense gunfire between these groups in Myanmar has caused fear among residents on the Bangladesh side.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is on high alert in response to the incident.
