Gunfire targets brick kiln owner's car in Chattogram

Unidentified assailants fired at the car of a brick kiln owner in Hathazari upazila of Chattogram. The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 28) around 1am on the Chattogram-Rangamati regional highway in the Charabattala area of Mekhl Union, Hathazari upazila.

Police said brick kiln owner SM Shahidullah Roni was returning to his hometown in Raozan upazila from his residence in Aman Bazar of the city at night. On the way, two individuals on a motorcycle first threw bricks at his car to stop it and then fired four rounds at the vehicle.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle) Kazi Md Tarek Aziz said two bullet shells were recovered from the scene. Preliminary investigation suggests the attack may have been the result of a dispute over the brick kiln.

Shahidullah Roni has filed a case with Hathazari Police Station, naming unidentified individuals as accused. He alleged that 10-12 assailants attacked his car, opened fire and attempted robbery and murder.

Police said the actual motive, identity of the attackers and the veracity of the case allegations are being investigated.
