Gunmen assigned to Prothom Alo, The Daily Star editors for security

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, retd, has said gunmen have been assigned to the editors of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star to ensure their security.

He shared the information with journalists on Monday after the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat.

The adviser said Dhaka Metropolitan Police had arrested 17 people in connection with the attacks on the offices of the two newspapers. He added that security had been strengthened at the editors’ residences alongside the deployment of gunmen.

He also said 10 people had been arrested over the beating and burning to death of a garment worker in Mymensingh.

The adviser further said the highest level of security measures had been put in place ahead of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s return to the country on December 25.
