Gunmen open fire at singer Asif Akbar's car in Moghbazar
Shots have been fired at the personal car of singer and former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Asif Akbar in Dhaka’s Moghbazar. He escaped harm because he was not in the car at the time.
The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday (October 24) in front of Bishal Center in the Moghbazar area. Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station, confirmed the incident.
The OC said Asif Akbar has a personal office in Moghbazar, and the car was parked in front of Bishal Center, near that office. Towards dawn, unidentified people arrived, fired at the car and fled.
According to police, there is no information that anyone was inside the car when the shots were fired. Asif Akbar was not there and is completely unharmed.
It remains unclear who the attackers were or what their motive was. Police also have no information so far on whether the incident is linked to any personal or professional dispute involving Asif Akbar. Police are investigating the matter.
When contacted by phone around 9 am on Saturday to ask for his reaction, he did not respond.
Besides being a popular singer, Asif Akbar is a well-known face in the sporting world as well. He has served as a director of the BCB.
