The medical board treating Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate in the Dhaka-8 constituency, has said his condition is extremely critical and his brain has been severely damaged. He is currently being kept under conservative management.

The information was disclosed in an official statement sent on December 13 by Dr Md Zafar Iqbal, senior consultant and coordinator at Evercare Hospital.

According to the medical board, Osman Hadi was transferred to Evercare Hospital’s critical care unit on Friday after undergoing surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The board said his brain has been severely damaged and, as surgery has been completed, treatment must now continue conservatively with full brain protection protocols and supportive care. A repeat CT scan may be conducted if his condition stabilises.

It said he has lung injuries and, as blood continues to drain through the chest tube, it must remain in place. Ventilator support will continue while monitoring to prevent lung infection and ARDS.

The board said kidney function has returned and fluid balance must be carefully maintained. The imbalance between blood clotting and bleeding, DIC, has improved significantly but requires continuous monitoring and transfusion of blood and blood components as needed.

Due to brainstem injury, fluctuations in blood pressure and heart rate are occurring. Blood pressure support will continue as required. If the heart rate drops, a temporary pacemaker will be installed, with the team on standby.

The medical board expressed sincere gratitude to doctors and support staff from Dhaka Medical College’s One Stop Crisis Centre, radiology, ICU, anaesthesia, neurosurgery and other disciplines for their heroic efforts.

The board said Hadi’s overall condition remains extremely critical. The summary has been explained to his brother and family members, who may share updates with the media if they wish. The medical team has requested prayers for Sharif Osman Hadi.

It urged the public not to crowd the hospital, stating that no visitors are allowed, and requested everyone to avoid speculation or spreading misinformation, respect patient privacy and trust the medical board.

The board said the medical team is providing treatment with the highest level of professionalism and sincerity and requested prayers for his recovery.

Osman Hadi was shot at close range while returning home by rickshaw after Jumma prayers on Friday. When he reached the culvert area of Bijoynagar, assailants on a motorcycle shot him in the head from behind and fled. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 2:35pm in critical condition and later transferred by ambulance to Evercare Hospital around 7:30pm for advanced treatment.
