Half a crore people expected at Tarique Rahman reception: Rizvi

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party expects a mass gathering of half a crore people at the reception marking the return of acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who is set to come back to the country on December 25 after 17 years.

Rizvi made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Tuesday after inspecting preparations at the reception venue.

He said Tarique Rahman would briefly address a gathering in the capital’s 300 Feet area on his way from the airport to Evercare Hospital.

After arriving in the country, Tarique Rahman will first attend the reception and then visit Evercare Hospital to see his mother and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, Rizvi said.

He described Tarique Rahman’s homecoming as a historic day and added that both the government and the BNP were making preparations to ensure security for the event, noting that the authorities were being cooperative.
