Police have seized a Hanif Transport bus involved in a tragic road accident that killed four members of the same family in Cumilla. The bus was reportedly traveling in the wrong direction at the time of the crash.

The bus was impounded on Sunday afternoon from a field near Manama Hotel in Khadghar Sakin, Debidwar Upazila. Ekbal Bahar Majumdar, Officer-in-Charge of Maynamati Highway Police Station, confirmed the seizure.

“After examining the CCTV footage of the accident on Friday, the bus was identified. The footage showed the bus was moving against traffic, which caused the collision,” he said.

However, the driver and helper have not yet been arrested. Police believe they fled after the accident and are continuing efforts to apprehend them.

The accident occurred on Friday, August 22, at the Bishwaroad U-turn in Paduar Bazar on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. A cement-laden covered van collided with a private car, killing four family members on the spot.

The deceased are Mohammad Omar Ali (80), his wife Nurjahan Begum (65), their elder son Md. Abul Hashem (50), a Bank Asia officer, and younger son Abul Kashem (45), all residents of Hosenpur village in Barura Upazila. The private car was driven by Abul Hashem.

In the same incident, three passengers of a CNG auto-rickshaw trapped under the truck were injured and are receiving treatment in hospitals in Dhaka and Comilla.

A case has been filed under the Road Transport Act in connection with the accident.
