Today, the country is immersed in peace and reverence as the Buddhist community, along with people of all faiths, celebrates Buddha Purnima, the most sacred festival in Buddhism.

This spiritually significant day marks three monumental events in the life of Gautama Buddha—his birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana—all of which are believed to have occurred on the auspicious full moon of Baisakhi Purnima.

In honour of this revered occasion, today has been declared a public holiday across the nation. From early morning, Buddhist temples and monasteries have echoed with the sounds of chants and prayers. Devotees are engaged in a range of religious observances including Buddha worship, taking precepts, offering Pinda, donating to the Sangha (monastic community), and performing various sacred rituals.

Carrying forward Buddha’s timeless message of non-violence, peace, compassion, and equality, devotees are celebrating the day with deep spiritual significance. The mantra "May all beings in the world be happy" resonates in every corner of temples and prayer halls, reflecting the core of Buddha's teachings.

According to Buddhist tradition, it was on this very day, nearly 2,500 years ago, that Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini, attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, and finally achieved Mahaparinirvana in Kushinagar. His life and teachings continue to inspire millions across the globe toward the path of harmony and mindfulness.

To commemorate the day, Bangladesh Television, Betar, and various private satellite channels are broadcasting special programmes, while national newspapers have published special features and articles highlighting the significance of Buddha Purnima.

Today, the entire nation joins the Buddhist community in honoring the life and legacy of the "Enlightened One", whose message still lights the way for a better, more compassionate world.
