Hasan Mamun congratulates Nurul Haque on winning Patuakhali-3

BNP alliance candidate and Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque (Nur) has been congratulated by his closest rival Hasan Mamun on his victory in Patuakhali-3 (Golachipa-Dashmina) constituency.

Hasan Mamun on Thursday night wrote in a Facebook post, ‘Congratulations – VP Nurul Haque Nur. Newly elected MP, Patuakhali-3.’

Hasan Mamun participated in the election as an independent candidate with the horse symbol. He was expelled from BNP for running as a candidate in violation of party instructions.

The official results of Patuakhali-3 constituency have not yet been announced from the office of the returning officer. However, Shahidul Islam, the publicity secretary of the central committee of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, said that in the initial results of 80 polling stations in this constituency, Nurul Haque got 73,934 votes with the truck symbol. Hasan Mamun received 47,930 votes with the horse symbol. Nurul Haque won by 26,400 votes over his nearest rival.

In the 13th National Parliament election, the BNP gave up the Patuakhali-3 seat to Nurul Haque Nur, president of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, a partner party of the simultaneous movement. On the other hand, Hasan Mamun, an executive member of the BNP central committee, was expelled from the party on December 30 for violating party discipline by submitting his nomination papers. Earlier, on December 28, he announced his voluntary resignation.
