Court Orders Election Commission of Bangladesh to Take Custody of Ballots and Result Sheets of Bagerhat-2
The High Court has ordered the EC to take custody of the ballot papers, result sheets and election documents of Bagerhat-2 constituency in the 13th National Parliament election on charges of rigging in the vote counting. At the same time, notices have been issued to other candidates of this constituency.
A single High Court bench of Justice Mohammad Ali passed this order on Wednesday (April 1) after accepting for hearing the case filed by Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, the BNP nominated candidate for that constituency, challenging the vote results.
In the 13th National Parliament election, Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate Sheikh Manjurul Haque Rahad was privately elected from Bagerhat-2 constituency by getting 117,709 votes. His nearest rival, BNP nominated candidate Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, got 66,409 votes. He filed a case in the High Court challenging this result.
