HC orders to dispose of Fakhrul's bail plea in 9 cases
The High Court directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka to accept the bail petitions in 9 cases filed against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in connection with the 28 October incidents and dispose of those cases.
The High Court bench, consisting of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah, issued this order along with the rule on Monday (December 18).
Later, Mirza Fakhrul's lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon confirmed this to the media.
He said, "10 cases are under trial in the CMM court. Due to his no-show arrest in these cases, his bail application was rejected by the lower court on December 12. In this situation, the writ was filed seeking direction to dispose of the bail applications as per law. However, since Mirza Fakhrul was shown arrested yesterday in a case at Paltan Police Station, the High Court has ordered the CMM Court to accept the bail application in 9 cases and dispose of it according to the law."
Earlier on December 14, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir filed a writ seeking guidance to address the bail petition in 10 cases filed at the Ramna police station and Paltan police station. Out of the 10 cases, seven cases were filed with the Paltan police station and three cases with the Ramna police station.
