HC restores candidacy of BNP nominee Sarwar

The High Court has declared the nomination of BNP candidate Sarwar Alamgir for Chattogram-2 constituency valid and ordered the restoration of his candidacy.

The order was passed on Tuesday, January 27, by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Md Asif Hasan.

Senior advocate Ahsanul Karim and barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol represented the writ petitioner, while barrister SM Shahriar Kabir appeared for the Jamaat-backed candidate.

Earlier, BNP-nominated candidate Sarwar Alamgir filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking restoration of his candidacy in Chattogram-2, Fatikchhari.

On January 22, the chamber court upheld a High Court order removing Sarwar Alamgir’s name from the loan defaulters’ list following the rescheduling of his loan.

However, on January 18, the chamber judge court had stayed the High Court order that removed his name from the defaulters’ list. The stay was issued by the chamber court of Justice Md Rezaul Haque following a petition filed by Premier Leasing and Finance.
