A new twist has come in the case of a dismembered body being recovered from the basement of a house in the Manda area of Mugda in the capital. The body, which was cut into seven pieces, was recovered from Maniknagar on the same night after the body was recovered on Sunday afternoon.

Police recovered the severed head wrapped in black polythene from the alley between two houses at the head of the East Maniknagar paved road in Mugda around 2:30am on Sunday (May 17). It was later sent to the Dhaka Medical College Morgue for autopsy.

Mugda Police Station Investigation Inspector Md. Jalal Uddin said that the body was recovered from the basement of Shahnaz Villa No. 260/1, Abdul Karim Road, Manda Prothom Gali. The body was cut into seven pieces and found in a decomposed state. The intestines were also protruding from the stomach.

Initial investigation suggests that the suspect killed the man somewhere else about six days ago, then chopped his body into pieces, wrapped it in polythene, and dumped it in the basement. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed. The PBI tried to identify the deceased through fingerprints, but failed. Officials said that it will be confirmed if the head is from the same body or not after receiving the autopsy report.
