Police recovered the headless and dismembered body of an unidentified man from the Manda area of Mugda in the capital on Sunday (May 17).

According to police, the body, cut into seven pieces and packed inside a black polythene sack, was found in a waste disposal space on the ground floor of a three-storey residential building in Manda First Lane.

Residents reportedly noticed a foul smell around 12:30pm and later discovered the sack. One of them informed the national emergency service by calling 999.

Mugda police station rushed to the scene and recovered the body parts, but the victim’s head remains missing.

Investigators suspect the victim was killed at least six days ago before the body was dismembered and dumped at the location.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) forensic unit collected evidence from the scene, while the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) attempted to identify the victim through fingerprints, but no match was immediately found.

The body has been sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College for autopsy.

Mugda Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Jalal Uddin said police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify those involved and recover the missing head.
