Headmistress suspended over hanging Bangabandhu’s picture in Pirojpur
Shamima Yasmin, the headmistress of Rameshchandra Government Primary School in Sonarghop, Nesarabad Upazila, has been temporarily suspended following allegations related to hanging a picture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
According to Md. Khondkar Josim Ahmed, Upazila Education Officer, a preliminary investigation confirmed the validity of the complaints, prompting the suspension decision.
Responding to the allegations, Shamima Yasmin stated, “Hanging the picture of Bangabandhu is not wrong; it is a sign of respect. I am the daughter of a freedom fighter, and displaying his picture is a matter of pride for me.”
Md. Hafizur Rahman, the headmistress’s husband, said, “We have not yet been formally notified of the suspension, but an assistant education officer requested that I bring a letter regarding the matter.”
The Upazila Education Officer added that the investigation is ongoing. Should Shamima Yasmin be found guilty, further disciplinary action, including permanent dismissal, will be considered.
Local reports indicate that on August 3, Shamima Yasmin was compelled to remove the picture following pressure from the community.
