Health minister makes surprise visit to Habiganj hospital, transfers absent pharmacist
Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain made an unannounced visit to the 250-bed Sadar Modern Hospital in Habiganj and took immediate action against a pharmacist who was absent from duty.
He arrived at the hospital around 12pm on Saturday, August 29, and toured various wards and departments to assess the overall healthcare services.
The sudden appearance of the health minister created a stir among hospital staff. During his inspection, he reviewed the presence and performance of doctors, nurses and other staff, as well as patient facilities, medicine supply and hospital cleanliness.
The health minister expressed dissatisfaction after witnessing irregularities and mismanagement in various departments. He directed doctors, nurses and staff to be more sincere and accountable in their duties.
Later, while inspecting the hospital dispensary, the minister found pharmacist Regan Ahmed absent from duty. Upon inquiry, he learned that the pharmacist was absent without leave. He immediately ordered the pharmacist's transfer.
Speaking at the time, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain said the hospital's environment was much filthier compared to hospitals in neighbouring districts. He noted a high patient load and a shortage of doctors. He said directives had been issued to address these problems.
He also said initiatives had been taken to establish a permanent campus for Habiganj Medical College at the earliest.
