Health minister's surprise hospital visit: Two doctors sacked over absence

Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has temporarily suspended two doctors over allegations of long-term absenteeism and a night guard over theft charges during surprise visits to three government hospitals in Satkhira.

He visited Tala Upazila Health Complex, Satkhira Medical College Hospital and Satkhira Sadar Hospital on Sunday (July 26).

The suspended doctors are Dr Tanni of Tala Upazila Health Complex and Dr Sohana Selim of Satkhira Medical College Hospital. Additionally, night guard Mostafa was suspended over allegations of AC theft at Tala Hospital.

During the visits, the Health Minister spoke to patients to inquire about the quality of healthcare, doctors' attendance and behaviour. He also inspected the hospital's ticket counter, operation theatre, wards, kitchen and storeroom. He expressed satisfaction with the food quality in the kitchen.

During the visit, a visually impaired individual, Sharmin Akhtar, who had completed her post-graduation from Jahangirnagar University, applied for a job. The Health Minister directed her to join the government-run Essential Drug Company Limited on August 1.

During the inspection, Deputy Commissioner Kawsar Aziz, District Council Administrator Habibul Islam Habib and senior administration officials were present.
