Hearing on appeals against Khaleda Zia's acquittal on March 2
The hearing of the state and ACC appeals against the High Court's acquittal of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust case has been scheduled for March 2.
A three-judge appeal bench led by Senior Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam set the date on Sunday (February 23).
Earlier, the state filed an appeal against the High Court’s verdict on February 16, which had cleared Khaleda Zia, her former associates Ziaul Islam and Monirul Islam Khan, in the case. The High Court had delivered the verdict on November 27 last year.
The case stemmed from charges of illegal transactions amounting to Tk 3.15 crore under the Zia Charitable Trust. The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case in 2010, leading to the conviction of Khaleda Zia in 2018, when she was sentenced to seven years in prison.
