A mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping across 14 districts in Bangladesh, intensifying public suffering amid scorching temperatures and humid weather conditions.

The sweltering heat has particularly disrupted daily life in urban areas, where residents are struggling with extreme discomfort.

However, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast possible relief through rain and seasonal thunderstorms.

According to a weather bulletin issued on Saturday morning (May 23), Mymensingh and Sylhet regions may experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by rain or thunderstorms, blowing from the north or northwest at speeds of 60 to 80 kilometres per hour by 6:00am.

In response, river ports in those areas have been advised to display local cautionary signal No. 2.

The Met Office also said other parts of the country could witness rain or thundershowers with wind speeds ranging between 45 and 60 kilometres per hour. River ports in those regions have been asked to hoist warning signal No. 1.

Rain or thunderstorms are also likely in and around the capital Dhaka, where the sky may remain partly cloudy throughout the day.

According to the latest weather data, Dhaka recorded a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius at 6:00am on Saturday. The sun is expected to set in the capital at 6:38pm, while sunrise on Sunday is forecast for 5:12am.
