Heavy rainfall caused widespread waterlogging across multiple areas of the capital, disrupting normal life and leaving commuters stranded in several locations.

The downpour, which began at this dawn (May 1) and continued for nearly two hours, submerged major roads and low-lying neighbourhoods.

Key areas including Green Road, Karwan Bazar, Panthapath, Dhanmondi, Jigatola, Mirpur, Malibagh, Mouchak and Moghbazar were among the worst affected, with traffic movement slowing significantly.

In parts of Hatirjheel’s Madhubagh area, water accumulated on roads, forcing vehicles to move at a slow pace. Many lanes and alleyways were also inundated, creating difficulties for pedestrians.

Commuters faced severe disruption as public transport became less available during peak morning hours. Several residents reported having to wade through dirty water to reach their destinations.

A journalist travelling from Mirpur to Karwan Bazar said rickshaw passengers were forced to sit with their feet raised as water reached the footboards, while rain splashes further added to the inconvenience.

The capital has experienced intermittent rainfall for the past four days, bringing relief from recent heat but exposing long-standing drainage issues in the city.

Weather officials have indicated the possibility of continued rainfall, raising concerns of further waterlogging if heavy showers persist.
