Heavy rain likely across country over next five days

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall across various parts of the country over the next five days due to an active monsoon system over Bangladesh and the northern Bay of Bengal.

According to Meteorologist Md. Omar Faruq, most divisions across the country are likely to experience significant rainfall over the next five days, while some areas may see moderate to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by temporary gusty winds due to the active monsoon conditions.

Until Thursday evening, most areas in Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions are expected to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers, while many parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions may also receive rainfall. Some areas, particularly in the southern and eastern regions, may experience moderate to heavy rain. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged across the country.

In the 24 hours from Thursday evening, most areas in Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Many parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions may also see similar weather conditions. Additionally, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in some locations within these regions.

In the 24 hours from Friday evening, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur in most areas across all divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain stable throughout the country.

In the 24 hours from Saturday evening, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are expected in most areas of Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions.

In the 24 hours from Sunday evening, most areas in Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions are expected to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds. Many parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions may also see similar weather. Additionally, moderate to very heavy rainfall is likely in some areas. A slight rise in day and night temperatures is expected across the country.

Rainfall activity is expected to decrease gradually in the extended five-day period following Sunday, said in the forecast.
