Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds and occasional thunder has lashed Dhaka since early Sunday (September 20), disrupting the morning commute and causing inconvenience to pedestrians and office-goers.

Rain was reported from several parts of the capital, including Rampura, Banasree, Natun Bazar, Mirpur, Pallabi, Farmgate and Karwan Bazar. The downpour began after gusty winds swept through the city in the early hours.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said Dhaka and adjoining areas could experience rain or thundershowers during the six hours from midnight Saturday. The sky may remain partly cloudy to temporarily overcast, while daytime temperatures could fall slightly.

The department recorded 20mm of rain in Dhaka in the 24 hours until Sunday morning.

For the six hours from 7am Sunday, the weather office forecast southerly to southeasterly winds at 10–15 kmph. At 6am, the capital’s temperature was 25°C, with relative humidity at 97 percent.

Dhaka recorded a maximum temperature of 35.5°C on Saturday, while Sunday’s minimum temperature was 24.2°C.
