Heavy rain to lash Dhaka, storm likely across country
Days of relentless rainfall are set to continue across Bangladesh, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecasting widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across all eight divisions, while warning of heavy to very heavy downpours in several regions.
The prolonged spell of rain has already disrupted daily life in the capital, causing waterlogging in many areas and creating significant difficulties for office commuters, workers and students.
According to the latest BMD forecast, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are likely to experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds in most places. Khulna and Barishal divisions are also expected to receive rainfall in many areas throughout the day.
The weather office also warned that moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions, raising the risk of localized flooding and further waterlogging.
Wind speeds may reach 45 to 60 km/h during thunderstorms, prompting authorities to advise caution. The BMD has instructed all river ports in the affected regions to keep Signal No. 1 hoisted.
Meteorologists say the ongoing active monsoon conditions are likely to sustain the wet weather, urging residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow official advisories.
