Heavy rainfall on Wednesday night caused multiple landslides in Sajek, located in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati district. As a result, road access between Sajek tourism center and Khagrachhari has been cut off, leaving more than 400 tourists stranded.

Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shirin Akter confirmed the situation and said that approximately 425 tourists are currently stuck in Sajek due to the suspension of vehicle movement.

According to Shirin Akter, the landslides occurred along the Sajek-Baghaihat road at several points, including Nondaram, Chaillyatoli, and Champaknagar areas. The Nondaram area experienced the most significant soil movement. The Fire Service has initiated clearance operations, but due to the large volume of debris, the army has deployed excavators to assist in removing the soil.

The UNO added that efforts to clear the road are underway and traffic will resume once the landslides are fully cleared.

Authorities are urging tourists and locals to exercise caution as the weather remains unstable.
