The High Court has formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the death of five-year-old child, Ayaan, who died during circumcision procedure at United Medical College Hospital on January 7.

An HC bench comprising of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah passed the order on Tuesday.

The five-member committee includes doctors, individuals from civil society, and a university professor.

The committee has been asked to submit the report within 30 days after investigating the entire incident.

On January 9, Ayaan's father Md Shamim Ahmed filed a case against United Hospital and United Medical College Hospital, its two doctors, unnamed directors, employees, and staff in connection with the death.

The plaintiff alleged that his son died due to negligence while being kept on life support at the United Hospital from December 31 to January 7.

The hospital then declared Ayaan dead and handed him a bill of Tk5.77 lakh.

In response to the incident, the DGHS has formed a four-member committee to investigate the allegations.

Ayaan's father Shamim Ahmed on January 10 sought cancellation of the medical college's licence following an investigation into his child's death.

On January 14, the health directorate shut down United Medical College Hospital in the capital's Badda for operating illegally, without a licence.

However, the High Court has observed that the probe report on Ayaan's death which was submitted by the investigation committee of the Directorate General of Health Services is ridiculous and eyewash.
