High Court orders registration of Development Party

The High Court has ordered the Election Commission (EC) to register Bangladesh Development Party (BDP) as a political party.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Shashank Shekhar Sarkar and Justice AKM Rabiul Hasan declared the rule issued in this regard as absolute and delivered the verdict on Thursday (December 12).

Barrister Ehsan Abdullah Siddiqui moved on behalf of the writ petition in the court.

Earlier, the High Court had issued a rule to register the Bangladesh Development Party as a political party. The party's chairman, AKM Anwarul Islam, filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking registration.

On October 26, 2022, the Bangladesh Development Party applied to the Election Commission for registration as a political party. Party chairman Anwarul Islam submitted the application along with documents to the EC.
