The government has begun preparations to shift the four major bus terminals in the capital. A high-level government delegation visited several potential locations for alternative bus terminals and temporary bus depots with the aim of reducing traffic congestion and making the public transport system more efficient on Wednesday.

The inspection tour, which started around 3pm, included visits to Sector 3 and 19 in Purbachal, Diabari, Gabtali Bus Terminal, Chunkutia (opposite the jail in Baghair), Tegharia Underpass, Hasnabad (Ikuria), Kanchpur and Fulbaria areas.

During the visit, the team assessed the existing infrastructure at the potential sites, traffic movement capacity, connecting roads, land availability and their suitability for establishing bus terminals and temporary depots in the future. Members of the delegation also provided necessary guidelines for resolving traffic congestion in the capital, improving traffic management and making the public transport system more effective and well-organized.

This field visit follows a meeting held on 15 June at the Cabinet Division’s Public Administration Room in the Secretariat. In that meeting on easing traffic congestion and modernizing traffic management in the capital, Prime Minister’s Adviser Tarique Rahman directed the swift relocation of the four bus terminals. Today’s on-site inspection was conducted as part of implementing that directive.
