Hijab is a component of civilisation: JU VC

Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU), has stated that hijab is not only a right for women but also a component of civilization.

He made these remarks following a rally organised by the Quran and Cultural Study Club (Female Section) on the occasion of International Hijab Day at the Senate Hall on Wednesday.

JU VC said, "After hearing the statement of a Western women's rights activist about the special relationship between the evolution of human civilisation and the wearing of clothes, a new realisation occurred to me.”

“Since we started wearing clothes, we have considered ourselves civilised. So, if someone tries to associate hijab with this process by determining the amount of clothing, how can it be considered against civilisation? Hijab is not only a right for women, but also an element of civilisation," he added.

Besides, JU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof M Mahfuzur Rahman, Associate Professor Shamima Nasrin Jolly of Botany Department, Ayesha Siddika Meghla, spoke among others.
