He is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Doctors said that Rony underwent surgery on his head on Wednesday (February 4) morning, but he is still unconscious. No case or written complaint has been filed with the police station by the family so far in this incident.

According to police and family sources, Rony took out his autorickshaw from the garage in Khalishpur area of Khulna after Fajr prayers on Tuesday (February 3). Later in the morning, a man posing as a passenger got into his autorickshaw, saying that he was going to Mirzapur Crossroad area via Boro Mirzapur. After reaching a secluded area, the passenger suddenly hit Rony on the head several times with a hammer. The miscreants stole the autorickshaw and fled.

Locals saw Rony lying in a critical state and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. After receiving primary treatment there, the doctors advised him to be sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Later, on Tuesday around 11 am, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by ambulance and admitted at 2pm. After various tests, he underwent surgery on his head on Wednesday morning.

According to the doctors, he has not yet regained consciousness due to a serious head injury.

Injured Rony's wife Mukta said that her husband is an autorickshaw driver and mechanic by profession and is the only earning member of the family. About a month ago, he bought the autorickshaw with a loan of Tk50,000 from an NGO. The family used to run on that vehicle.

She said, "Suddenly, everything has become a mess in our lives due to this incident. My husband is still unable to speak, has not regained consciousness. We don't even have the rickshaw. I don't understand how to pay for the treatment, how to run the family."

Meanwhile, the Khulna Metropolitan Police has started an investigation into the incident. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Ops) Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan said that efforts are being made to identify the miscreants by collecting CCTV footage from the area around the incident. Initially, it is believed that this was a planned robbery.
