Home Adviser clarifies Asif Mahmud's gun license issue
The issue regarding the gun license of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has been addressed by Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. He clarified that there are claims stating Asif Mahmud received a license for an AK-47, but this is incorrect. It was not an AK-47; it was simply one of his personal tools. He had accidentally left behind an empty magazine for a pistol, which was a mere oversight.
Speaking after the law and order core committee meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday (June 30), the Home Affairs Adviser said, "Sometimes, you intend to take your glasses but accidentally grab your mobile instead. It’s simply a mistake. If he had been aware earlier, he wouldn’t have taken it."
When asked how Asif Mahmud obtained the gun license despite not being 30 years old (the minimum age required), Jahangir Alam Chowdhury responded, "As I haven't reviewed the law, I am unable to comment on this issue."
Despite undergoing two rounds of security scans at the airport, the item was not detected until the third scan. In response to journalists' questions about airport security, the Home Affairs Adviser remarked, "For instance, my brother is a leader. When he enters, he might receive certain privileges. However, no one should receive such privileges. We’ve made it clear that the law must apply equally to everyone."
"A special meeting on law and order was held today, where discussions were held regarding the period from July 1 to August 5. During this time, several events organized by political parties and social organizations will take place. We’ve discussed how to ensure these events proceed smoothly. These events will be held across Bangladesh, and at this time, there are no threats associated with them," he added.
