Home, information ministers' response over President's interview
President Md Sahabuddin's recent interview has created nationwide stir. In the interview, he described the last 18 months under the interim government as 'extremely humiliating'. He alleged attempts to unconstitutionally remove him by Dr Muhammad Yunus's government.
On this matter, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said everyone's constitutional rights will be ensured in the country. Everyone has the right to speak. The government will not interfere with freedom of expression under any circumstances.
He made these remarks after a meeting with top law enforcement officials at the Secretariat on Monday, February 23.
On the other hand, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said the government is closely observing the President's interview.
He said sensitive issues have emerged in the interview, particularly regarding BNP and the lack of cooperation during the interim government's tenure. The matter will be examined in detail and an official response will be provided.
In his interview with private media Kaler Kantho, the President claimed the interim government had kept him 'confined to the palace'. He was not informed about important state decisions or foreign visits.
At one stage, there was even a conspiracy to replace him with a former Chief Justice as President, which he termed unconstitutional.
The President noted that during this difficult time, BNP and the armed forces stood by him, helping maintain constitutional continuity.
