Home minister inspects Teknaf land port amid year-long trade suspension
Trade activities through the Teknaf land port in Cox's Bazar on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border have remained suspended for nearly a year, causing frustration among local traders and stakeholders. Amid this situation, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed visited the port on Tuesday morning, April 14.
Upon arriving at the port in the morning, the home minister was welcomed by port authorities. He toured the jetty area and observed the overall condition of the port. He inspected warehouses, administrative buildings and other facilities and exchanged views with concerned officials. He also visited the Naf river area, which is crucial for the port.
Mohammad Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, General Manager (Accounts) of United Land Port Limited Teknaf, the port operating company, informed that activities at the land port have been partially suspended for a long time due to the internal situation in Myanmar. He briefed the home minister in detail on the matter.
Local members of parliament, the administrator of the district council, officials from various levels of the administration, and senior BGB officers were present during the visit.
Those concerned hope that necessary steps will be taken to resolve the ongoing crisis and resume trade activities at the Teknaf land port following this visit.
